Psilocybe Cubensis: "Space Coast" Florida

This strain is very special because it is a first generation from the wild. And it has very aggressive genetics. Even on agar it blasted through a dish in less than a week and actually fruited mushrooms 4 days later in the petri dish. That is just crazy outstandingly fast. It is an eager fruiter. This mushroom was first found in Space Coast Florida right off Vero Beach in 2008. The original print was cleaned on agar with a few transfers.

This strain does well in whatever you throw at it. The cap size on the first flush develops later than expected. The cap is the last thing to develop and expand actually way larger than I thought it would. Also there is no sign of the veil anywhere. Although very small specimens have a little bit of a veil. The veil pretty much completely disappears and there literally is no sign of a veil ever being there in mature adults. Caps shape is very bulbous and fat in the first flush and light in color. Stems grow very tall and are overall a very large body large yield producer.

Another thing I found is that this strain is EXTREMELY DENSE. More so than most cubies I mean, the stem is not hollow at all. I cut below the cap and the whole way through the stem was completely full of flesh. I cut the stem lower and still the stem was full and not hollow. You can feel it when you maneuver them that they are very heavy. You can also feel the scalpel have to work hard cutting through the flesh more so than any cubie thus far.

I am showing you the underside of the gills and as you can see they look a bit different. The cap color is between a Pan Cyan color and a Cubie color. Lets see if a future flush has different properties.

This is our 10lb ET MIX casing soil spwaned with rye first. It is a large 3" thick by 20" long completely colonized block on top of a bed of vermiculite and perlite with peroxide. 2" inches. It is then covered with damp vermiculite with peroxide, between 1/8" - 1/4" The perlite/ver on top and bottom helps regulate moisture in the block by absorbing excess moisture and keeping your block hydrated. It is very useful for fanning for prolonged times (a couple hours) This is extremely important because it keep the block tight and healthy instead of softening up with age and falling apart. The top verm layer gives you a better pin-set by eliminating all the aborts that just take up the networks energy and only allowing the strong, healthy, large ones to make it through the vermiculite layer giving you bigger fruits. Eliminating tedious cleanups. You will get most of your families on the sides of the block since there is little vermiculite there but you will get the largest and most picture perfect ones from the top.

Heres a picture of a fully mature space coast family. The caps never fully flatten they stay bulbous. The cap color is very light and no sign at all of the veil on the stem.

Heres the Second flush on its way. Cap color is darker on the second flush, caps get wider sooner and seems to grow into full maturity in fewer days. These babies get really really tall and just seem overall healthy picture perfect mushrooms.

Second flush is much larger and taller as well as more cubensis like. Veil more noticeable. Density still way up there but not as much as the first flush. Overall a great producer.
