Perlite improves aeration and drainage helping to promote strong roots in plants. Important in keeping humidity at a steady level in tanks without expensive humidification tools and gadgets. Spray or soak with some H2o2 to fight contamination. Works best when moist, but not wet. A mixture of perlite and vermiculite make the best bottom layer for casings and for cakes. This mixture keeps chamber’s humidity level optimal and allows for mycelium to spread through the bottom layer. This provides more usable moisture retained by the perlite and vermiculite to be passed on to the fruit bodies. Also shows acceleration in the growth of fruit bodies. Very light. Also goes a long way.
