Mixture of freshly ground organic long grain brown rice and grade A horticultural vermiculite. This mixture(substrate) is very easy to use, and comes sterile and ready to inject with your choice spores. All mixed and put together for you. The sterilized substrate filled jars come in a vacuum sealed bag to guarantee sterility.
This mix is good for beginning cultivators, because it is the simplest and easiest mixture to work with. Good for any strain and most species.
This particular mix will stay together nicely, and is one of the best and easiest to do the CAKE METHOD with. See INFO page for specifics.
It can also be crumbled to be used with a casing method to result in higher yields and usually larger fruits. See our Sterilized Casing Soils in the "Sterilized Casing Soils and Spawn Bags" page.

All jars come with an extra fine dry vermiculite top layer that rests between the substrate and the lid. This layer has been proven very effective in filtering oxygen and allowing a CO2 exchange even in a non-sterile environment.
FREE 20cc spore syringe of your choice. A 20cc syringe is more than enough to inoculate all 6 Jars. We recommend using at least 40ccs of spores for faster performance. You can purchase additional spore syringes separately to study up to 6 different species and/or strains at the same time!

For wild, gourmet, or exotic species or strains, read up a bit about their preferred growing environments and substrates. Most mushroom species can be started from this mixture, but might require a casing or a transfer into of a certain kind of soil, compost, dung, or wood mix.

Jar orders can still be shipped to these states, but not the spores. Please do not place an order for spores (or free spores) if you are in these states. If you still decide to order, your jars will be sent without spores and there will be a $15 non-refundable "Annoyance Fee" (unless given a legal shipping address).
