The "WELL" is only available in the Pint size JARS. The "well" is a moist vermiculite core which acts as a reserve of water("well"). This "well" can be injected with clean water to prolong cake life, and create larger sized fruit bodies. You are reviving the cake from the inside out, and prevents the cakes from drying out.
Use your spore syringe to inject a few cc's of water a day once in fruiting chamber. Detailed instructions come with JARS.
All jars come with an extra fine dry vermiculite top layer that rests between the substrate and the lid. This layer has been proven very effective in filtering out oxygen and allowing a CO2 exchange even in non-sterile environments.
FREE 20cc spore syringe of your choice. Available in both PINT size JARS (with or without "well") and in 1/2 pint jars. A 20cc syringe is more than enough to inoculate all 6 Jars. We recommend using at least 40ccs of spores for 6 Pint sized jar for faster performance. You can also purchase additional spore syringes separately to study up to 6 different species and/or strains at the same time!
For wild, gourmet, or exotic species or strains, read up a bit about their preffered growing environments and substrates. Most mushroom species can be started from this mixture, but might require a casing or a transfer into of a certain kind of soil, compost, dung, or wooden logs)
