Product Overview

New for sale at Earth's Tongue is the new line of laminar flow hoods we custom make here. Each flow hood we build is flow tested for sterility all the way around, including gaps and corners using a $3000 particle counter which we utilize in our lab on a regular basis. All the benches are tested at 0.3 microns which is particle size smaller than a mold spore and bacteria. At the moment we are offering 3 sizes of flow hoods.

This one is the 2ft x 2ft portable size. Including a 99.99% efficient 24"h x 24"w inch HEPA filter 6" WIDE, 1/4 HP fan, and a grounded plug and cord.

We use 1/2" thick board making really sturdy. We also triple polish the wood and give it 3 coats of smooth varnish giving it a smooth non-particulate releasing finish.

This is the easiest to carry by yourself including on trips where a flow hood might be required and can be put inside the trunk of your car or the back seat.

The hoods we make, put YOU in mind. Making it super easy for you to take them apart and put them back together in a matter of minutes. Including being able to take the pre-filter housing off just by pulling it off. The blowers we use are much more powerful than any other flow hood manufacturer has put out. Why?? Because the blowers and the motors are the most expensive thing when it comes to building a flow hood as soon as you get to the 1/4 HP range and up you are talking hundreds $$$ just for the motor alone!

We pack our 2ft x 2ft Flow Hoods with a 1/4 HP motor with either 1 or 3 speeds. We always use ours on the high speed setting which gives the most sterile airflow with the most CFMs.

If you think 1/4 HP is too much you probably don't have enough experience with flow hoods and using different blower motors. We've been building flow hoods for many years now, mainly for our labs and for customers with custom requests. Static pressure on the HEPAs we use for this size can easily take the 1/4 HP and be pretty much 100% effective.

We have tried less powerful blower motors but you have to be within a couple of inches of the filter otherwise you will get contaminants enter your work space and the top 4" inches of the unit are worthless cause they just don't blow enough air to push contaminants out of the way quick enough.

The motors are easily removed by simply unscrewing a few screws that hold it tightly unto the top of the unit.

All blower blades are perfectly balanced before assembly and the Flow Hoods themselves are balance in weight from left to right including the units where we use much larger scrolls and motors of up to 3/4 HP.
We also make this design the HAND DOWN easiest Flow Hood Units to replace the HEPA filters and get YOU back to your work without losing more than 10 minutes of your time so you can get back to your sterile work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

You simply unscrew the fastening boards on the front of the unit that hold the HEPA in an air tight fit with the rubber gasket on the filter. Then, to quickly get the HEPA filter to come out of its nicely snug fit, you turn the unit on and let the air pressure instantly blow out the HEPA in a matter of a couple seconds.

You then turn the unit off and put the new HEPA in its place and re-fasten the boards into their same place as before putting pressure again on the HEPA filter gasket in front creating an air tight fit! AND VOILA!! YOU ARE DONE!

The 2ft "h" x 2ft w" units do not come standard with a pre-filter housing. The pre-filter housing makes it a lot more bulky once put together but can easily be carried in 3 separate pieces.

* Pre-Filter Housing
* Blower Motor
* HEPA BOX

We highly recommend getting the pre-filter housing if you want your HEPAs to last long. Pre-filters should be replaced every 3 months or as deemed necessary.

This is also the only flow hood on market this size that offers a pre-filter housing for it.

This sized unit is perfect for inoculations, transferring media, working with petri dishes, making spore syringes, working with cultures etc.

We recommend the 2ft x 2ft version or larger if you are working with bags since you will need the extra foot up on top for your bags to fit comfortably in your sterile air flow.

We also recommend you build walls and a roof out of either stainless steel or cardboard. This will help carry the sterile air farther and give you much greater sterility making it more of a professional "Flow Bench" and not just a "Flow Hood." Cardboard is naturally sterile so it works well but stainless steel can be cleaned and sanitized using liquids as cardboard cannot.

Get yours now and do things the right way! Stop being cramped in an uncomfortable barely visible "glove box", stop shoving your face into hot ovens, stops using exhaust fans, stop intoxicating yourself inside ghetto built tents full of lysol fumes, or whatever else you have come up with!
